Vivid Dreams and Bitching
Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 7:14PM Last night was an event for the annals of history. It was a night like no other, one that I don't think I've had in recent memory. I actually remembered a dream. It was quite vivid, as well. It's just too bad it was wasted on the subject matter in question.
I had a dream that involved two people that I'm not sure that I am comfortable discussing. One being my paternal grandfather and the other being my biological father. Now, I realize that this isn't odd in most circles, but I haven't had physical interaction with my grandfather in twelve or thirteen years. My biological father is someone I have never really had any interaction with since I was about eight years old. Now, he did have the occasional drop into the picture for a couple of days, every ten fucking years, just to let you know I'm alive, but that's about it. Not exactly Ward-fucking-Cleaver. They both left the physical plane of existence last year: Grandpa in April and my father in August.
Now for the dream (and I'll paint a rough picture the best I can). There were a bunch of people, all pretty unremarkable, except for the fact they didn't have faces and I didn't know any of them except for my father and grandfather. Throughout the entire dream none of us said a word to each other. My grandfather was cooking at a barbecue grill, my father talked to other people that i did not recognize. It was quite short, now that I think about it. In the end of the dream, I pulled my father aside and asked him, "why are you here?" "I thought you were dead." He then told me, "it was a joke, I was joking." It was then that the dream ended.
Now what in the fuck does this all mean? Are they dead? Was I dead? Did I do some kind of out of body experience visit to the netherworld? Is it just my brain fucking with me for no good reason? It's really good at that. Any inspirational comments will be much appreciated.

Hey Ray, Your dreams are not as unusual as you might think. A lot of these occurance are pretty common. Dreams usually follow two catagories: the random, wierd images and experience in your subconscious mind that mean nothing, or the nightmares that have a more significant role in your subconscious mind. Nightmare, usually, are stress-related, and are very
common. They follow 4 types: falling , being attacked, being chased, or being stuck. For example, if you are falling-- you might feel "worried", if your are stuck or moving in slow motion -- you might feel like you are " stuck in a rut". I have had two of these nightmares-- falling and being attacked. I would probably suspect that you either feel " being stuck" or "being chased" . Being stuck, in the sense, that you could not leave that place, or being chased, in the sense, that you have your father and grandfather there and they are not supposed to be there- maybe even chasing you.
Whatever the case may be, these mightmare usually are the result of unresolved issues, They are very common and are usually not something to worry about. Everyone will have these types of dreams once in a while. I know I do.

The only thing is, Joe, is that this really didn't seem to be a nightmare. I really didn't feel as though I was stuck. It was more that I didn't know where I was or who most of the people without faces were. As for my father and grandfather being there, it was less the fact of them not supposed to be there, and more of that i felt like I was the one who wasn't supposed to be there. That's why I wondered if I was dead. I hope it isn't unresolved issues causing this dream, because I have a lot of them. Thanks for your comment, Joe!
